General information only
The content of this site is patient education. It describes the layers of the abdomen, how a complaint is assigned to one of them, and what each option costs in time, recovery and risk. It is not a diagnosis, it is not a treatment recommendation for any individual, and it does not create a doctor-patient relationship.
No substitute for examination
How much of your own abdominal contour is fat, whether your skin retains the tone to recover, whether a separation of the rectus muscles is present and how wide it is, and whether a bulge is a hernia are findings that can only be established by examining you. Reading this site cannot substitute for that, and a plan made from a website alone is a plan made without information.
Results vary and are not guaranteed
Individual results differ, and no surgeon and no website can guarantee an outcome. Removing fat does not tighten skin, tightening skin does not repair a muscle, and repairing a muscle does not remove fat. Any statement that appears to promise more than that should be treated with suspicion wherever you encounter it.
If something is wrong after surgery
If you have had abdominal surgery and develop rapidly increasing swelling or pain, spreading redness, fever, bleeding that does not stop, a wound that opens, vomiting, or a bulge that becomes tender and will not reduce, contact the treating team or seek emergency care immediately rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
